Redemtech Receives IDC G.R.A.D.E. Certification for IT Asset Disposition Processes
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) July 16, 2008 -- Redemtech, a world leader in IT asset disposition (www.redemtech.com) and Technology Change Management services, announced today it has been certified among a select few companies with IDC?s newly established Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) certification. The certification was given to only five organizations in the world that have made significant investments in establishing sound IT asset recovery and disposal processes. According to IDC, there are thousands of companies involved in the collection, treatment and marketing of retired IT assets.
"The certification of Redemtech was based on a series of objective factors that are critical to end-user companies when it comes to both business continuity and environmental stewardship. The company has established stringent processes that are highly valued by some of the world?s largest corporations that utilize its services," said David Daoud, research manager at IDC. "IDC?s G.R.A.D.E. Certification is an important tool that helps identify the most reliable service providers."
IDC created the certification for both OEMs and core IT asset disposition vendors, like Redemtech, in response to demand from IDC's end-user customers regarding PC and other IT hardware retirement. Redemtech exceeded the minimum criteria passing grade of 75 percent required for G.R.A.D.E. certification.
IDC?s endorsement and G.R.A.D.E. certification methodology relied on rating five key functions that are used as standard practices by all selected vendors. Certification was based on 34 IT Asset Disposal (ITAD)-related functions and tasks related to remote applications, onsite services, logistics, in-plant processing and post treatment. Within each of the five functions were 34 operational variables, which received their own ratings. These operations are a series of tasks that have to be offered by the ITAD vendors or their partners, if such function is outsourced.
IDC also looked at Redemtech?s capabilities when it comes to complete assessment of the outcome of an organization?s IT disposal as it relates to environmental footprint reduction and cost control. As part of the certification, IT asset and disposal companies must provide reporting to their clients when it comes to final cost savings of their assets, carbon emission reduction, financial equivalent of these reductions, the volume of assets that have been recycled versus remarketed, how toxic products are treated and whether assets have been exported and where.
Redemtech?s certification was based on a number of environmental sustainability efforts adopted at the organization, including:
- Strictly adhering to a zero-landfill, zero-export, zero-incineration, zero-prison labor policy for managing e-waste with the technology, automated processes and infrastructure necessary to support those policies.
- Developing an Environmental Management System (EMS) that significantly exceeds all environmental standards required by law. The company?s EMS is certified and governed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 standards.
- Upholding the world?s most rigorous mandates for the dismantling and recycling of e-waste by signing The Electronics Recycler?s Pledge of True Stewardship, the world's most rigorous environmental and social justice criteria for recycling e-waste set by the Basel Action Network.
- Holding its partners and downstream handlers to the same high standards of e-waste accountability, rigorously vetting their processes and conducting surprise inspections to ensure environmentally responsible disposal.
- Demanufacturing for every possible component to be reused, including harvesting of parts for use in manufacturing new products.
- Professional refurbishing capabilities and value-based processing make computer redeployment financially advantageous and up-to end user-standards. As a Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR), Redemtech can also install Windows XP; when resold, increasing customer yield. Sister company, Micro Center stores, has been a pipeline for refurbished sales.
- Participating in the Community Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (CMAR) program increases technology donations to non-profits by enabling the install of Microsoft operating system and Office software for a $5 administrative fee. Redemtech?s free asset recovery and recycling to charities ensures donated equipment is properly disposed at end-of-life.
- Certified testing and condition coding for operability and cosmetic quality increases the remarketability of IT assets, reducing e-scrap.
- Utilizing a data security process that ensures 100 percent verified destruction and auditable proof of results. High security logistics and strict process control practices ensure assets are not lost or stolen in transit.
- Reporting transparency through Redemtech?s Customer Service Center and certified reporting provides the documentary trail and accountability required.
- Using its Retrac? Web application ensures consistent, value-appropriate provisioning of assets that maximizes reutilization and resale value while eliminating security risks and human error.
?Certification by IDC further validates Redemtech as an industry leader in best practices for environmental sustainability, asset recovery and disposal,? said Robert Houghton, president of Redemtech. ?IDC?s G.R.A.D.E certification is the industry?s first rigorous vendor rating program, and it will help customers make better choices given the expanded regulations today, the fear of security breaches, and deeper concerns over the environment.?
